Other Activities

We have many other interests that overlap with walking, such as health and well-being, nature and the environment, music and culture.

So we are always interested in an opportunity to do something new which ticks these boxes.

In February 2024 we were chosen by the BBC to launch the 25th Series of the Radio 4 programme Ramblings. It was a recording of the day that we hosted a visit by famous presenter Clare Balding. We took her for a walk up Castle Hill, sang some songs, told some stories and ate a picnic. You can listen to the show here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001w7l0

We collaborated with sound technology students of London City University, and Shaping Care in Kirklees, to produce A Walk With We In Front, a 45-minute Sound Exhibition which was presented at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in November 2023. You can listen to it here: https://sparc.london/sparc-collective

We are working with Environmental Projects in Kirklees to encourage more people to enjoying walking in the Three Valleys Nature Park in Huddersfield https://epiks.org.uk/three-valleys-nature-park/

We were invited to participate in HE(A)RD the centrepiece of the 2023 Kirklees Year of Music. We took the sound artists for walks in the hills and recorded sounds which became the voices of the giant sheep which defined this spectacular event: https://herd-kirklees.co.uk/

We have welcomed speakers at our group meetings on topics ranging from Healthy Eating, Mental Well-Being, Yoga and Basic First Aid. If you would like to come and talk to us, we’d love to hear from you.
