What we do

We walk regularly and often, and we try not to let the weather put us off – so we encourage people to come in good weatherproof gear and boots. We strongly recommend walking sticks too (if you don’t have any please ask and we may be able to lend you some).

In most cases we assemble for a walk at the Antilles Credit Union at 163 Trinity Street Huddersfield HD1 4DZ. From here we leave in cars for the walk location. We meet at 9.00 departing promptly at 9.15. On occasions we can pick people up from other locations in Huddersfield.

Regular walks take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, within a 10-mile radius of Huddersfield. Walks last from 2 and 4 hours and are between 4 and 8 miles in length.

We tackle a variety of terrains from flat canal sides and reservoirs, forests and meadows, to steep slopes and rugged hill tops. But we regularly like to stop and take in the view, so you could call us ramblers rather than speed-hikers.

  1. Easy Access: These walks use easy access paths and are suitable for everyone, including people with wheelchairs and pushchairs. You don’t need walking boots, comfortable shoes or trainers will be suitable. It’s possible wheelchair users may need some assistance on some sections so please contact the walk leader to discuss if you are a wheelchair user.

  2. Easy: These walks are suitable for anyone who has some level of fitness and who doesn’t have a mobility difficulty or health concerns. The walks are generally suitable for pushchairs but they may need to be lifted over occasional obstructions. You don’t need walking boots, comfortable shoes or trainers will be suitable.

  3. Leisurely: If you have at least a little bit of experience of walking in the countryside and you have a reasonable level of fitness, these walks will be suitable for you. The walks may include unsurfaced rural paths and we recommend you wear walking boots and bring warm, waterproof clothing as appropriate for the season.

  4. Moderate: These walks may include some steep paths and open country walking. They will be at a brisk pace so you will need a good level of fitness and experience of walking in the countryside. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

  5. Strenuous: These walks will be at a brisk pace and may include hills and rough terrain. They are recommended only for experienced country walkers with an above average level of fitness. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. If you are new to walking with the group, please contact the walk leader in advance to check the walk is suitable for you.

  6. Technical These walks are suitable for experienced and very fit walkers with additional technical skills such as scrambling and use of ice axes or crampons. All participants should contact the walk leader in advance for further details.
